TED GOOSSEN is a literary translator, professor emeritus at York University in Toronto, and one of the founding editors of Monkey Business and MONKEY New Writing from Japan. He is the editor of The Oxford Book of Japanese Short Stories. He translated Haruki Murakami’s Wind/Pinball and The Strange Library, and co-translated (with Philip Gabriel) Men Without Women and Killing Commendatore. He translated Hiromi Kawakami’s novel The Third Love (2024) and her story collection Dragon Palace, published under the Monkey imprint with Stone Bridge Press in 2023.

MOTOYUKI SHIBATA translates American literature and is the founder of the Japanese literary journal MONKEY and the co-founder of its offspring, MONKEY New writing form Japan. He has translated Paul Auster, Rebecca Brown, Stuart Dybek, Steve Erickson, Brian Evenson, Laird Hunt, Kelly Link, Steven Millhauser, and Richard Powers, among others. Recent translations include Paul Auster’s 4321, Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll. He is professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo.
