Born in 1971, Sarah Jollien-Fardel grew up in a village in the Hérens district of Valais. After spending several years in Lausanne, she returned to her home canton, where she continues to live. A journalist by profession, she has written for numerous publications in Switzerland. Like her debut novel, Sa Préférée (My Favourite), which was widely acclaimed upon its publication in French in 2022 and in English in 2024, her second novel, La Longe (Tether), is deeply rooted in the stark and majestic mountain landscape that shapes her world. Susan Pickford has worked as a translator since 2001. She previously taught translation at the Sorbonne and now leads the English unit at the University of Geneva's Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. In addition to her translation work, she researches and writes on the history of translation.
