Yogi Ramacharaka was one of the best-known pseudonyms of William Walker Atkinson (1862-1932), an American writer, lawyer, publisher, and major figure in the New Thought and early twentieth-century metaphysical movements. Under the Ramacharaka name, Atkinson wrote widely on yoga, mental science, occult philosophy, spiritual development, breath, concentration, and Eastern religious ideas adapted for Western readers. His books helped introduce popular audiences to ideas about mind power, spiritual discipline, practical metaphysics, and inner development at a time when New Thought, Theosophy, occultism, and comparative religion were reaching a wide English-language readership.
